Reminders

A quirky, imperfect piece of pottery becomes a powerful reminder of God's intentional design. In this encouraging reflection, we're reminded that we are uniquely created, wonderfully equipped, and deeply valued—no comparisons needed. Even on doubtful days, the truth remains: We are God's masterpieces, made for His purpose.

Reminders

Linda brought out several boxes filled with handmade pottery—a collection of vases, plates, pots, and bowls—and told the women gathered for the meeting that we could each choose one to take home. I gazed at the assortment, overwhelmed by the choices.

Then I saw it—a piece I couldn’t resist. It seemed to have my name written all over it. Unlike the others, it was full-bodied, lumpy, lopsided, and had a warped mouth. I loved it instantly because it reminded me of ME.

That special gift now sits on a shelf in my living room, a visual reminder that the Master Potter created each of us differently. I share the quirks of that pot, and though I might seem peculiar, I’m still a vessel God can use mightily for His work.

I know that. I preach that. Even so, there are days my mind plays tricks on me. I fall into the comparison trap. I have what I call Moses Moments—those times when I doubt I can do what God has called me to do. I feel like an imposter. I conveniently forget that God has wonderfully created me and uniquely equipped me to do things no one else can do.

On days like that, I often have to remind myself of the truth of who I am and whose I am and take my own sermons to heart. (Why is it so much easier to preach them to others than to myself?)

My special pot makes me smile. And I believe I make God smile too—just by being me, the one He created me to be.

Reminder: I am God’s masterpiece. You are God’s masterpiece. No one can do me like I can do me. And no one can do you like you can do you.

For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].

(Ephesians 2:10, AMP)
